just ok Review by chitown

prior to purchasing the GPS I was using the Geocaching App on an Ipod Touch 5th generation. The app was 9.99. It was disappointing that when you send geocache listings to the Magellan Explorist GC it does not include any description info etc. However, I can pull it all up on the ipod. I wanted a GPS that could get me closer to GZ than the limited access ipod. Also, unless you pay for a premium membership $30/yr, downloading caches are tedious. I can do a search on the app that I cannot even do on the www.geocaching.com website. And you cannot create a pocket query without the premium membership. The app works better to find a cache so long you can save it somewhere using a wifi signal. It is also tedious to add coordinates. The signal itself is pretty good. I have found several caches and did get close to GZ.

Not bad at all Review by The b's

The rubber on the knob ripped after three days. Needs to have better instructions. The unit was easy enough to figure out on our own. Works good on getting you to the cache. Would say yes it's a good one to get.

Lots of nice features, poor quality Review by ChemistK

I've had three Magellan GPS and this one is going to push me over to a Garmin. The track button was extremely hard to use to get the right things to highlight, it has a tiny, hard-to-read screen, and the button broke off within a year of use. I would have kept it, but now it doesn't start up properly, with only one part of the initial screen showing and it won't shut off until I remove the batteries.

This was my first GPS and I have loved it. I found it easy to use and easy very reliable. The only drawbacks I noticed were its tendency to freeze up a bit in dense woods (although if you find a clearing it catches up) and incompatibility with pocket queries although I found a way around that, too. Unfortunately, it turns out to be water-RESISTANT, not water-PROOF as it got dropped into a creek yesterday and appears to be dead. I haven't decided whether to buy another one just like it or upgrade to a different model but I'm definitely sticking with Magellan. I find it much more user friendly than my sister's Garmin.

Very nice GPS but pricey Review by Redneck Geo Chick

Very nice little GPS. Very reliable and easy to use...that is if u can figure it out. For the price it seems like a full set of DETAILED instructions should have come with it. Especially for a beginner like me who never even used a GPS before. I started out with my Casio Commando and decided to get something with more reliable signal. Deep woods caching was near impossible with standard cell service. So far this little GPS had led me straight to the coordinated everytime. Also nice to have when just hiking. Love the color screen and the assortment of ways you can waypoint. With proper instructions its definitley a five star rating item.

not compatible with a Mac Review by sockmonkey50

I bought this unit based on the reviews, however I did not do my homework to see just how compatible it is with a Mac computer, and it isn't. After literally hours of messing with this thing I could not get the cache info to download to the unit. The groundspeak help forum clearly indicates I was not alone in this trouble. In disgust I returned to to REI, who has a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Kudos to REI, not so much Magellen
